Abstract: This source is a general ethnography of the Zulu in the middle of the nineteenth century. Standard subjects are treated, including physical appearance, clothing, economy, marriage practices, political institutions, treatment of crimes, religion and divination, and a relatively brief history of the wars of Shaka. The author was a missionary who spent four years in Natal. His research methodology involved interviewing of informants and some historical research.
