Abstract: This article explores the role of various factors in the acquisition of individual modernity in a migrant community of Christian Maronite Lebanese in Detroit, Michigan. Of particular interest in this study are the problems of adaptation, integration, and assimilation encountered by this immigrant group in the transition from a traditional agricultural environment to an urban-industrial one. Attention is specifically focused on the history and social background of the group, their motivation for emigrating, early settlement patterns, and assimilation characteristics (p. 148).
