Abstract
This brief source discusses the extent and nature of hospital care in the Boeotia region of central Greece, and the degree to which it is accepted and utilized by the people of the area. The author discusses similarities and differences between home care and that obtained under hospitalization, the effects of traditional Greek culture on the extent and degree of acceptance of hospital care, her interpretation of the pros and cons of hospitalization (from the villager's point of view) with special emphasis on hospital care as a status symbol among rural Greek families, and the attitudes of the Greek doctors themselves toward hospital conditions under which they work.
