Abstract
The aim of the author's field work was to study an orthodox Muslim, Turkish-speaking village of modest size intensively and another village in less detail. He thus spent 10 months in the village of Sakaltutan (1949-1950) and 6 months in Elbasi (1951 and 1952), both near the town of Kayseri on the Anatolian Plateau. The resulting study focuses on socio-political and economic structure and organization. Detailed information is given on the family and household, justice, and interpersonal relations.
