Abstract
This article is concerned with describing family property rights and inheritance among the matrilineal Khasi, the duties and obligations of the clan-mother, and of the men who are born into the group and who marry into the group. Becker discusses the effects of conversion to Christian religions and on inheritance, the division of family property and also regards the use of holy or taboo lands.
