Abstract
This work is the result of three separate trips made by the author, a traveler and explorer, to the Goajiro area in 1920, the 1930’s, and in 1955. The book was written for popular consumption, but nevertheless it contains much valuable ethnographic data on the Goajiro Indians, especially in regard to: names and naming, clothing, topography of the regions, domesticated animals, slavery, “clan” feuds, foreign trade, weapons, property rights and sanctions for violations thereof, puberty customs, childbirth and childhood education, marriage, ceremonial dances, shamans and curing, magic, funerary customs, organized banditry, and mythology.
