Abstract
The Cuna song 'Mu-Igala' which is presented here with comments and explanations, is sung at severe cases of childbirth. It is valuable not only as an indication of the treatment of prolonged deliveries but also for the insight it gives into the Cuna animism. Mr. Wassén received the text from the Cuna Indian Guillermo Haya in 1945, although he arranged for its transmittal in 1935. The translation was done by Mr. Holmer and the text is presented in normalized Cuna and in English with comments on the Cuna language and translation problems. Mr. Wassén summarized the text and presents his synopses with notes interpreting the text in terms of the ideology of the Cuna and other ethnic groups.
