Abstract
This history recounts events leading up to and following the fateful intersection of two very different civilizations and world views in the Valley of Mexico in 1519; an encounter retold in great detail. The preceding text focuses on the evolution of Aztec sovereignty from its origins, analyzing the nature and exercise of Aztec sovereignty and its relation to cultural change during the course of its evolution, and providing extensive data on government, leadership, and the role of religion in Aztec society. The latter part of the text covers consequences during the first few decades following the Conquest.
