Abstract
Only the first part of this article has been included in the HRAF Collections. Part II which consists of document materials on which the analysis was based and the index have not been included in the file. The sections processed give information on the nature of katcinas, the masks used in katcina ceremonies and the ceremonial and technical processes involved in their preparation, costumes and ritual paraphernalia and a few myths. There is also a discussion of the organization of the katcina societies into dance groups and cult groups with a listing of their activities. The cycle of dances is discussed along with information on the preparation for these dances and an analysis is given of the songs and dances themselves.
