Abstract
This account is based on field work undertaken in 1915-1916. The author, a famed ethnologist, discusses Zuni kinship, household and family organization and clans. He evaluates their importance for social relationships and membership in other groups paying particular attention to fraternities and the priesthood. The materials were gathered systematically through censuses of several clans, fraternities and priesthood. Some comparisons are with other Pueblo groups and a number of comments are offered on earlier studies of these groups and of Zuni. The physical aspects of the town are described in the text and maps, and settlement patterns and movements to new houses within Zuni are also discussed and related to family organization . Finally the author notes some changes that have occurred in Zuni during the period between the field work of several earlier ethnologists and his own trip.
