Chinook songs

Journal of American folk-lore1 • Published In 1979 • Pages: 220-226

Abstract
This is a collection of Chinook songs dealing generally with themes of love and jealousy. These songs were recorded by Boas at holiday gatherings of several linguistically related tribes living and working together in several cities in British Columbia, and using the Chinook language as a common means of communication. As a result the songs often contain words from other northwest tribal groups (e.g., Haida, Tlingit, etc.). Songs are presented in this work in the native text followed by its comparable English translation.
