Abstract
This article presents a descriptive analysis of the magnitude, scale, and implication of Syrian-Lebanese emigration to the United States. The paper focuses on three dimensions of this complex phenomenon dealing with: (1) changing patterns in the emigration process between 1886 to 1914; (2) a socioeconomic profile of the immigrants themselves and how and why this profile changed over the years; and (3) the clarification and accounting of the major causes of such an exodus.
