Abstract
This work is basically a study in two parts. The first part, the introduction by the editor James R. Stevens, presents a brief but useful historical/ethnographic summary of the Assiniboine from around 1640 to the late nineteenth century. The second and major part of this book consists of a series of legends and stories by chief Dan Kennedy (Ochankugahe) dealing with different aspects of the culture, based on his recollections of the traditional history and mythology of the Assiniboine people
