Abstract
This article discusses aspects of culture during the Old Babylonian period (including an unsettled phase following the fall of the last Sumerian dynasty), with particular focus on marriage, inheritance, adoption, divorce, and celibate women (nadītus) who were sent to live in temple cloisters as a means of perpetuating family wealth.
