Abstract
This source is a thorough study of the demography of the !Kung of the Dobe area of Botswana. A lengthy discussion of demographic theory and method is included along with the demographic facts. Topics covered include mortality, fertility, marriage and divorce. The fertility of the Dobe !Kung is found to be surprisingly low. Fertility is then analyzed comparatively, and in terms of women's and men's fertility rates. In addition, three chapters are devoted to the analysis of computer simulations of the Dobe population. Finally, the genetic implications of Dobe !Kung demography are considered, before the source concluded with demographic predictions for the future. Included in this work are over 100 figures, and many photos. In general, this piece is very thorough in its treatment of !Kung demography. There is, however, much more theoretical and methodological discussion than there is relevant data.
