Abstract
This is an updated version of the author's 1927 work, The Mashona. This edition contains more information on the Matabele (Ndebele) people than the original and that information has been indexed separately. The information is based on personal observations of the Shona and Ndebele over an indeterminate period the author served as a government official in the region. This source includes identification of the Shona and Ndebele groups and other neighboring tribes, and information on culture history, birth, childhood, adolescence, marriage, totemism, the cattle complex, family life, language, religion, the status and role of the dead, social and political organization and structure, law, and justice.
