Abstract
This article, by a missionary, deals with Shilluk beliefs in sorcery. The author discusses the evil eye and the diseases attributed to this power, the social position and relations of persons believed to possess the evil eye, the manner in which such power is passed on to others, and the treatment of diseases attributed to this power. The jal yat or evil medicine man is discussed in similar terms. In addition some materials are offered on infanticide and on norms of behavior related to Shilluk beliefs in sorcery.
