Abstract
This article describes the traditional status of women in Albanian society, and their emancipation under the auspices of the Communist Party of Albania (later known as the Party of Labour of Albania) in the 1940s. This study disscusses women's participation in the war of national liberation (1941-1944), their political, organizational, and educational work both in the cities and countryside, the development of campaigns to eliminate illiteracy throughout the country, participation in agricultural and industrial development projects, and to seek important positions in the government both at the state and national levels.
