Abstract
Originally published in 1885, this work is a basic study of the Andaman islanders. Written by a government official who was in charge of public homes for the natives, the book covers most aspects of their material and non-material culture, as well as the physical anthropology of the people. There is an additional article in the rear of the book, 'Report of researches into the language of the south Andaman Island,' written by Alexandr J. Ellis, using the materials of E.H. Man and R.C. Temple. This article was originally published in the 'Transactions of the Philological Society,' 1882-3-4, pp. 44-73. HRAF has repaginated these pages as 225-256.
