Abstract
This study is based on a general survey in 1939-1940 covering nearly all the fishing communities in the states of Kelantan and Trengganu and some villages in the north of Pahang. Firth carried out eight months of intensive work in fishing villages and associated communities near Perupok in the Bachok district of Kelantan. The organization and financing of production, ownership of equipment, marketing, output, and the distribution of proceeds from fishing are described, based on daily records for a six months' period of the value of catch in the area under study. Individual income from fishing and the relationships of individuals in the community are also covered.
